Experience
I have worked as a tutor and teacher during and since college at the University of Pittsburgh. I took a course in college which provided me with the opportunity to teach an algebra recitation class as an undergraduate student. During this time I was also a tutor for math students at the University. After obtaining my teaching credential, I taught as an Elementary Learning Specialist for ten years. I worked with students on IEP's who struggled with reading, writing and/or math, one-on-one or in small groups. I also tutored regular education students who needed a boost in reading, writing or math skills throughout my career. Currently, I am working with two students who homeschool on reading fluency skills.

Hello, my name is Rachel Lake. I have always had a passion for teaching and traveling. I began my studies at the University of Pittsburgh and after graduating made my way west. My first stop was Colorado, where I lived on a ski resort for a season. I then packed up and headed out to San Diego where I soaked up the sun and the beach! While working on my teaching credential and enjoying southern California I met my now husband. We moved to Los Angeles where I began my career as a Resource Teacher. After four years in this bustling city and seeing a lot of great music, we made our way north to Portland, Oregon. I continued my work as a Learning Specialist and we also had our first daughter. While pregnant with my second daughter my husband’s job brought us to Lee’s Summit, MO. We have loved exploring this new area and discovering all that Kansas City has to offer. We found a great neighborhood on a lake and spent most of our last two summers swimming and boating and enjoying lake life! During this time I have been a stay at home mom with my two girls and I am excited to now have the ability to begin tutoring again.
