Experience
One who simply dispenses information is not an educator. One can only be considered a teacher if the person being taught actually learns. It is the responsibility of the teacher to present the subject matter in such a way that student can understand and process it. That is when learning takes place. This responsibility is something I take very seriously. I make it a point to get to know my students and to be aware of their comprehension levels. This allows me to provide quality instruction for each individual student. An error which often occurs is that instructors present subject matter at a level which students are not equipped to comprehend. As a teacher, it is important to remember that students who are learning have not had the same amount of interaction with the subject material as one who has taught that material. I endeavor to carefully consider my students' level of understanding when I am teaching. When students ask questions searching more for an answer than for understanding, I often answer with a question for them to consider. I make them think their way through the process until they find the answer for themselves. I practice positive reinforcement to my students' questions, encouraging them to work hard and take pride in their learning.
