Experience
I attended both UMKC and UCMO during my personal educational experience, and I have now been teaching at the college level for over five years. I am an instructor at Longview Community College, and there, I have taught ecology, botany, environmental science, and biology courses. I find that many students struggle in their science courses when teachers introduce complicated language and jargon too early in the learning experience. I believe that teaching students the basic concepts of a subject in everyday, basic language is important early on. Later, they can then learn the terms and jargon, once they have the basic principles down. This is the method I use when both teaching and tutoring, and I find it helps many students understand subjects currently confusing them. I truly enjoy teaching and tutoring, and I find personal satisfaction in leading struggling students to success in their courses by helping them understand them. I also like knowing that I am helping to improve the lives of the students I teach and tutor and even encouraging them to delve deeper into the world of science. Courses I tutor include biology, ecology, life sciences, biostatistics, environmental science, IB biology HL, and various other science courses. In my free time, I enjoy collecting plants, insects, and fossils, and I also enjoy reading good books.
